Rejoin EU Party candidates stand in London local elections this Thursday
The Rejoin EU Party is pleased to announce that several party candidates are standing in the local council elections in London this Thursday. Full details can be found here.
Peter Ward, who is standing in Hanger Hill ward in Ealing, said Brexit has been an unmitigated failure and the local elections offer Ealing voters an opportunity to tell the Labour government that the UK needs to rejoin the EU.
“If our candidates are elected as councillors, a clear message will be sent that we must rejoin,” he said.
Rejoin EU Party chairman and former MEP Brendan Donnelly, who is standing in East Finchley ward in Barnet, said Brexit has stifled economic growth, burdened exporters with bureaucracy and estranged the UK from its natural allies.
“All the polls indicate that the British public is weary of Brexit,” he said. “Yet our political establishment refuses to recognise what’s staring them in the face. We need to rejoin the EU and we need to do so now.”
Polls now consistently show majority support for ending Brexit and the latest sign of that is in a Daily Mail online straw poll asking whether the UK should rejoin the EU. It shows that, of more than 37,000 votes cast so far, 86% favour rejoining, 10% back staying out and 3% support so-called “closer ties”.
Rejoin EU Party leader Richard Morley said: “Nearly 10 years after the Brexit vote, the disaster of leaving the EU is clear. According to the Mail’s poll of tens of thousands, even their own readers, typically the very backbone of Brexit support, now realise we must reverse it. It’s time common sense prevails and for Britain to return to reality – the EU.”

The Rejoin EU Party is campaigning to re-join the EU because we believe re-joining is the only way to solve the multiple problems Brexit has created. Brexit is broken and it’s breaking our country too. All the promises on which Brexit was sold to the electorate in 2016 were nonsense. Far from reducing red tape and providing £350m a week for the NHS, Brexit makes trading with the crucial European market more complex, difficult and expensive and threatens to reduce funding for public services. If you agree Brexit is making our country poorer, less tolerant and less united, join us and send a message to Westminster that you want your EU membership back, with all its freedoms and benefits.
