The Rejoin EU Party is launching a campaign to urge MPs to hammer home the message to the government that the UK needs to commit to rejoining the EU as soon as possible.

We welcome the recent shift in Labour’s tone on Europe, which we believe and hope signals a belated realisation that the party, and indeed others at Westminster, now see rejoining as essential if they’re to have any realistic expectations of winning the next election.

We’re particularly encouraged by Andy Burnham’s recent comments that rejoining is one of the options he will consider and also by a report this week claiming he plans to ask the Treasury for economic analysis to help convince voters to support rejoining.

However, we think a full return to EU membership needs to happen as soon as possible, rather than in 10 years’ time as some have suggested.

Rejoining in a decade or more is unacceptable – the UK needs the benefits it would bring now.

We want the government to commit to start formal membership negotiations with the EU immediately, whilst doing what it can to boost the economy in the meantime by rejoining the single market, customs union and other EU programmes and initiatives.

We’re encouraging people to write to their MPs asking them to urge the government to make rejoining the EU an urgent priority.
