“I see Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has finally succeeded in stealing a march on Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and suggested the Iberian power black-out was because of Spain’s supposed over-reliance on solar power, an hour ahead of her Reform rival, who reportedly described efforts to reduce global warming and climate change by using more sustainable energy sources as ‘renewable lunacy <www.express.co.uk/news/politics/2048371/nigel-farage-net-zero-spain-portugal-blackout> ‘.
“There’s no evidence that Spain’s considerable use of renewables played any part in the black-outs across Iberia. The failure was definitely in the power delivery grid rather than in issues of supply.
“Despite initial denials, which given the international situation are completely understandable, a cyber attack on a system already stretched by inadequate investment in key points of the grid and in the interconnector with France, cannot be ruled out. This incident may warn us of several things, but its deployment as making a case for fossil fuels, in the face of the increasing price competitiveness of renewables, is a gross misrepresentation, especially if it helps deflect from what may have been the real cause.”Notes to editors:

Brexit is broken and it’s breaking our country too. All the promises on which Brexit was sold to the electorate in 2016 were nonsense. Far from reducing red tape and providing £350m a week for the NHS, Brexit makes trading with the crucial European market more complex, difficult and expensive and threatens to reduce funding for public services. If you agree Brexit is making our country poorer, less tolerant and less united, join us and send a message to Westminster that you want your EU membership back, with all its freedoms and benefits.* *Promoted by John Stevens on behalf of the Rejoin EU Party, 86-90 Paul St, London, EC2A 4NE.*
