*Budget shows Britons are paying the price for Labour’s stubborn refusal to re-join the EU, the Rejoin EU Party says*
Tens of billions of pounds in tax hikes in this week’s Budget show Britons are picking up the bill for Labour’s inexplicable and ill-conceived refusal to re-join the EU.
The Rejoin EU Party believes Starmer’s government could avoid these unnecessary tax increases – and market worries caused by higher government borrowing – simply by starting the process of re-joining the EU’s single market, customs union and ultimately the EU itself.
Research has shown that doing so could boost the UK’s annual tax take by £40bn – similar to the amount Chancellor Rachel Reeves is raising in tax hikes – remove the damaging red tape and extra costs Brexit has foisted on businesses and boost market confidence.
Rejoin EU Party chairman Andrew Smith said: “Brexit is the problem, but tax rises are not the solution. Signalling an intent to re-join the EU would provide the Office for Budget Responsibility with the evidence it needs for growth.”
