Brexit isn’t working
Vote Matt Shouler, Rejoin EU in Melton and Syston
I’m from a Melton family and I’ve lived here most of my life. I’ve never run for public office before now.
As this election was announced, I had no intention of standing. The big parties chose their candidates for our constituency. Neither of them is local. I asked them to talk about Brexit. And I’m still waiting to hear back.
Every single local person I spoke to agreed Brexit has failed. But the big parties are ignoring it. So I decided to stand.
I’ve dedicated my life to public service: in the Royal Navy, HM Diplomatic Service, the Police Special Constabulary, and now as a parliamentary candidate.
Nearly everyone I asked was happy to nominate me: parents at my daughter’s school in the Vale of Belvoir; pensioners in our local church congregation; first time voters; farmers; our independent parish councillor; and local NHS workers. (Only one person declined: he agreed we should Rejoin EU, but his party refuses to talk about it.)

Melton and Syston people know what national experts have been telling us for years: Brexit is making us poorer.
Melton and Syston are rural capitals of food, where food importers and exporters want rid of Brexit red tape.
Our farmers deserve their EU subsidies back, and some need seasonal EU workers.
Our NHS needs to employ EU staff without extra red tape.
Our children deserve their EU citizenship. And we deserve to travel in Europe without long queues and roaming charges, just like we used to.
Brexit was a con trick. It was meant to make us richer but it is making us poorer. 64% of British adults already agree it was a mistake. Rejoin EU is the only party facing these facts.
