The Rejoin EU Party is running a full-page advertisement in Chester local paper, the Chester Chronicle, today to send a strong ‘Labour isn’t pro-EU’ message ahead of the Chester by-election, calling for Labour voters to ditch the party to protest against party leader Keir Starmer’s unnecessarily weak stance on Brexit.
Starmer has consistently failed to address the serious harm that Brexit is inflicting on the country and now he’s openly ruling out re-joining the EU or even the single market and customs union.
The Rejoin EU Party is seeking to use the Chester by-election to highlight the votes that Starmer could lose in the next election if he continues with his damaging Brexit policies.
Party leader and Chester by-election candidate Richard Hewison said: “Starmer must recognise Brexit is hurting the people Labour is supposedly campaigning to help. The people of Chester and across the country who feel Brexit’s impact the most are those vulnerable people that Starmer and Labour claim have the party’s support. Starmer and politicians in all parties now must stand up and call out this Brexit disaster.”
Local supporter and campaign agent John Falch said: “I’m backing Richard and the Rejoin EU Party because Starmer has failed to stand up to Brexit. I urge Chester’s residents to join me in giving Starmer a wake-up call.”
*Notes for editors:*
*The Rejoin EU party is campaigning to re-join the EU because we believe the UK belongs at the heart of Europe and re-joining is the only way to solve the problems Brexit has created. Brexit is broken and it’s breaking our country too. All the promises on which Brexit was sold to the electorate in 2016 are now increasingly exposed as fantasy. Far from bringing the promised reduction in red tape and bureaucracy and providing £350m a week for the NHS, Brexit makes trading with the crucial European market more complex, difficult and expensive and threatens to reduce funding for public services. Sectors such as farming, fisheries & financial services, supposed to benefit from Brexit, now face an uncertain future. If you agree Brexit is making our country poorer, less tolerant and less united, join us and send a strong message to Westminster that you want your EU membership back, along with all its freedoms and benefits.*
