*Rejoin EU Party to stand 26 candidates in a “dishonest” general election*
The Rejoin EU Party today announced it will be standing 26 candidates in the upcoming general election to challenge what Tory grandee Michael Heseltine has described as the “dishonesty” of the major parties trying to ignore or downplay the devastating effects Brexit is having on the UK.
Party leader and candidate for Finchley and Golders Green, Brendan Donnelly said: “Brexit is destroying jobs, fuelling the cost-of-living crisis and making personal travel more and more difficult. It has clearly failed to meet any of its objectives and a general election should be an opportunity to challenge and hold properly accountable those who foisted it upon us.”
Lead agent for the party and candidate in Chipping Barnet, Richard Hewison, said: “Obviously the timing of the election presented challenges to get candidates on the ballot paper, but I guess Rishi Sunak’s intention was to make the election fundamentally tougher for any party bar the Conservatives.
“As a pluralist party keen to work with others, we are content to stand in a limited number of areas and urge voters there to take the opportunity to send a firm message to the next government.”
Meanwhile, party chair and Oxford East candidate Andrew Smith said: “People I speak to as part of this campaign are appalled that no party is promising concrete solutions to the problems Brexit has brought to their lives. The major parties in particular seem engaged in a conspiracy of silence to ignore Brexit in the hope that nobody will ask them about it. Rejoin EU will not let them get away with it.”
The Rejoin EU Party will formally launch its national campaign in Chipping Barnet, at High Barnet tube station, on Sunday June 9th at 2pm.
The full list of 26 candidates is:

*The Rejoin EU party is campaigning to re-join the EU because we believe re-joining is the only way to solve the multiple problems Brexit has created. Brexit is broken and it’s breaking our country too. All the promises on which Brexit was sold to the electorate in 2016 were nonsense. Far from reducing red tape and providing £350m a week for the NHS, Brexit makes trading with the crucial European market more complex, difficult and expensive and threatens to reduce funding for public services. If you agree Brexit is making our country poorer, less tolerant and less united, join us and send a message to Westminster that you want your EU membership back, with all its freedoms and benefits.*
